based of of my previous research I condensed belonging into four factors in order of importance, starting with self as your mindset and perspective on your identity and how you view yourself with others is the most important, then connection to others as this is where we share culture and identity as well as gain insight from others, thirdly is connection to place and that is influenced by our past experience in places, familiarity to us and how we relate to them now, finally ownership or influence is how we feel like we have impacted the people and place around us, the more we feel like we have impacted others lives the more we feel like we are accepted and understood.
Chapter is a way for people new to Glasgow to develop a sense of belonging and experience the city for themselves. Following the map the user can visit chapter partner businesses and engage in various different activities that each work on one of the four factors of belonging, for example tasting new things develops our connection to place and memory attachment. These activities help the user connect to the local area and community as well as encourages them to think about their own identity and sense of place. This helps the user with belonging and helps local businesses develop new loyal customers. As Glasgow is the UK’s most cultural and creative city, Chapter partner businesses can highlight their own cultural or creative qualities within their engagement cards developed alongside Chapter. As well as developing the four factors of belonging the user will be creating new unique experiences, different from visiting general tourist landmarks as they will be more socially involved and interactive, creating more meaningful personal connections.
